Blood Pregnancy Tests

This type of pregnancy test is a serum (blood) test. It is used to measure the HCG levels present in your blood. HCG is a hormone. It is released from a developing embryo and it is detected in the blood stream around 11 days after you have conceived. This blood test provides a definite pregnancy confirmation. It can also be used to estimate how many weeks pregnant you are. IPSA Medical also offers referrals, if you have decided to discontinue your pregnancy. IPSA Medical will organise the appointment for you at the Marie Stopes clinic. Your IPSA Medical doctor will support you during the process.

Female Hormone Testing

In women, diabetes, gynaecological conditions (such as polycystic ovaries and menopause/fertility problems) and thyroid disorders can be detected using a hormone test. This hormone test is useful, especially when your IPSA Medical doctor feels that a hormonal imbalance is the reason behind some of your clinical symptoms, such as:

  • Fertility problems
  • Abnormal periods
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Excess hair/hair loss
  • Acne
  • Increased thirst

Fertility

IPSA Medical’s fertility consultation involves an in-depth gynaecological history review alongside a review of both the sexual histories of you and your partner.

Your IPSA Medical fertility consultation aims to exclude any medical problems that might be preventing conception or affecting your fertility.

The investigations IPSA Medical undertakes include:

  • A full blood count
  • A hormonal blood screen
  • A sexually transmitted infection (STI) screen, if indicated.

IPSA Medical may also recommend and then refer you for an ultrasound scan (USS). Depending on your results, a specialist referral can then also be organised for you.
