A break in the skin is called a wound. At IPSA Medical, we have the expertise to provide both ongoing care (for chronic wounds) and dress acute wounds. IPSA Medical has a full range of cleansing packs and specialist dressings.
Wounds IPSA Medical Doctors Can Dress:

At IPSA Medical’s wound-care clinic, we will not only review your wound, but we will cleanse it and dress it regularly (if needed). If your wound is beginning to look like it may be infected, we will also offer antibiotic treatment.
We do have a range of available dressings. At IPSA Medical, we make use of the most appropriate dressings for your wound to aid your recovery process, to minimise scarring and maximise healing. Your wound will be examined immediately.
Your IPSA Medical clinic doctor has a background in A&E. The environment you will be seen in is both clean and quiet.
Your wound will be examined fully and immediately. Sterile cleansing of the wound will then be carried out by your IPSA Medical doctor, which is followed by a range of available treatment options (including pressure bandages, stitches, Steristrips and glue).
Once your injury has been assessed, the best dressing is selected for your wound to enable the quickest possible tissue recovery.
You will be given thorough after-care advice. Until your wound is fully healed, our doctors will carry on dressing and reviewing your wound.
Antibiotics will be provided for you by your IPSA Medical doctor if there are any signs of wound infection.

When to Seek Medical Advice for Wounds
Always seek medical advice if your injury:
- Has not stopped bleeding
- Has debris or an object embedded in it
- Is very deep or large
- Is affecting a joint crease or an artery
- Is sore, red and/or painful, or if there is any pus seeping out of it: a discharge could mean that your wound is infected
- Is a previous wound that now seems to have become infected
- Was caused due to a bite of any kind: seek medical attention for any bite from an animal or human
Human bites often happen when one person punches another in the mouth. The victim’s teeth cut the hand. This quite often produces small cuts in the hand with painful, swollen and red skin.
Always access a healthcare professional and have your wound checked, especially if you are unsure about how serious the wound is. At IPSA Medical, our professionals have the expertise to determine the severity of these types of injuries. They will also be able to clean your wound effectively. This acts to prevent any infection prior to stitching up your wound.
Having a Tetanus Vaccination
It is important to check how up to date your tetanus vaccination is if you are bitten or if your skin is broken from an injury. If you do require a booster jab, a doctor at either the IPSA Medical clinic or your own, regular medical provider can do this for you.
Antibiotics
If you have received a bite from either a human or an animal, then our IPSA Medical doctors will usually recommend taking a course of antibiotics, as this will prevent any infection from developing.
